Jim Preusser
Candidate for Altoona City Council
About Jim:
I am 34 years old, and I am running for Altoona City Council because I believe the young people need to get involved and give back to there cities. I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. I moved to Altoona in February of 1993 when this city had snow as high as the Empire State Building. I am the oldest of 4 kids; I have a brother named Tony, and 2 sisters Christine and Antoinette. I live on the east side of Altoona, with my beautiful wife Maria and two dogs. I am a graduate from Penn State Altoona Campus with an Associate Degree in Business and have 123 college credits. I attend 18th Street Community Church, with Paul Johnson as the pastor.
I wanted to run for Altoona City Council to fight things that I believe go hand in hand in this City. Abuse and Drugs. When I say ABUSE, I am talking Domestic Abuse; I am talking Teen Abuse, Dating abuse, and Spousal abuse. A dear friend of mine has a saying; "Think Globally, Act locally", and I will judge each policy and each law as councilmen here in Altoona as just that, thinking globally, and acting locally. The first thing I would like to act locally on is assembling a group of investors to bring a Boys & Girls club to Altoona. I want to focus on our young kids and lower Altoona's demand on drugs. I met a young lady about a month ago, by the name of Marlissa Yohn. I believe Marlissa has done a great job in realizing the need of this club; she has also worked for a club in Ohio but just cannot seem to find that investor willing to seek this gem. I am an Alum of a boys & girls club, and I say: Let's give these kids somewhere to hang out, let's give these kids somewhere to run for help.
I believe this current City Council has done a great job, and I would like to continue in their success, by bringing this club to our area. We all need to play a role in our community, I hear people talk about this problem or that problem in the world today, but I do not hear any of us say about the problems we face herein Altoona, tonight or at this hour. My deepest sympathy to all the families and friends involved in this latest tragedy occurring at the Subway and the Davis family tragedy happening just a month ago, my prayers to all of them. Thank you and God bless America.
