I'm not originally from Altoona so I haven't been able to see all of it, but all I have seen are restaurants and places to shop. I wish there were industrial jobs for people who actually want to stay in the area, but because there aren't it seems like Altoona is just fighting growth. That's its main problem- the fight against growth. People in this community should be better prepared to accept change.
The city should back off with the bureaucracy and shorten the process of getting anything done. If the city is going to be better, it has to allow for tighter working area and less red tape. Do you know how long it takes to make any progress in this city? I hear from customers (who are land developers) all of the time about how the lengthiness of this process. People always want to complain about what's in their backyard, but will also complain about having nothing to do. I think that if you want to see things happen, you have to cut the bureaucracy.
Unfortunately, sometime in the next three years I plan on moving back to Miami because of the lack of business opportunities here.
