Momentum Builds, Blair County Tea Party Considers Options

Posted at 06:30 AM on November 03, 2009

The Blair County Tea Party Steering Committee is considering transforming the organization into a legal entity due to its rapid momentum and rising popularity in Blair County.

The group held its general membership meeting last night, with substantial turnout of Blair County voters and interested visitors.

“As we gain attention, we need to look into taking legal and civil safeguards,” said speaker Joe Mercer at the event.

Mercer explained that the group consistently has exceeded its goals in terms of turnout since it began, stating that he quickly learned there were more people around that think like he does than he originally realized.

Another speaker, Jim Rokosky, discussed the group’s legal options to form as a 501(c) 4, 527, or an Unincorporated Association.

The Blair County Tea Party has held several events since its beginning and continues to plan for future events.

When is the next Tea Party scheduled? I don't think twice a year is sufficient.

While I don't totally disagree with the Tea Party's stance on matters, I think it is sad that we can get more people to turn out to an anti-tax demonstration rather than an anti-war demonstration. I dislike federal taxes just as much the most hard lined conservative, but really our priorities are so backwards these days.
