To whom it may concern,
Sometime ago, I wrote with a dream and wish to support the returning troops from local 56th National Guard Stryker Brigade with a victory parade. I’ve felt that a parade would express how proud everyone was for the wonderful job our guys did for our country.
I’m proud to be an American and I wouldn’t have the freedom I do if our troops weren’t willing to give of themselves. I’ve made an effort to contact all the right constituents and received no response either because they were too busy or not interested. I don’t understand it.
As Americans I think we all need to volunteer to something special for our troops but everyone doesn’t feel the way I do, and I found no real official who wanted to commit themselves and so I ask myself how patriotic are people?
I contacted local management to get a permit for a parade in our local town and came up against some real walls. Our local police wanted overtime pay for directing traffic and closing off streets. Then there was insurance for the parade, and management said local storekeepers wouldn’t like their businesses being interrupted.
I’m just one person, and on a fixed income; so I’ve had no way of coming up with that kind of money, our own VFW people backed their support and contacted management and got no feedback either.
I’m really disappointed in our local officials who can’t find the time to volunteer any time or anything else for a worthwhile cause for our troops who made our freedom possible. So troops, I’m sorry there will not be a victory parade in your honor because I just couldn’t put it together without a little help from our local law enforcement and the local community officials.
But on my own behalf, thank all of you troops for a job well done and I thanks God for bringing you home safe; and for the families who lost love ones, my prayers are with you all.
Sincerely,
Edie
