Impending PA Deregulation Will Cause Price Increases

Posted at 08:10 AM on December 01, 2009 Comments comments (1)

With all the debates over national health care and continued war it seems that a vital issue to Pennsylvanians is being overlooked. That issue is the further deregulation of our electricity providers. It has already been scheduled by our state government to go into effect next year.

As with all “deregulation” the stated purpose is to provide incentive for competition across state and local lines. We will, according to the key word riddled arguments of deregulati...

Here's a Solution

Some of you may be deep in the 'rabbit hole' of government conspiracy. Some may laugh at the idea, but still believe there is something wrong with America. We all know that there is something drastically wrong with the current world view. We can say 'united we stand, divided we fall” or "one nation under God" all day, but that doesn't make it so. In fact, the country hasn't been so divided since the days of the Civil War. Right vs. Left. Rich vs. Poor. Young vs. Old, and the list of sep...

The X File

Local coverage of candidates running for offices and school board positions has been eerily non-existent from the Altoona Mirror; looks like they might set this one out. Guess they don’t want to have anything committed to a printed public medium, which could be referenced back to in the future regarding commitments made to voters on issues, especially the issue of reassessment. Your vote is wanted but you are not to know what you’re voting for nor do they want a paper trail, trick...

Enough Bickering

I am utterly taken aback by how easy those who hold the power in our lives manipulate, coerce, and confuse the rest of us.  As the Democrats and Republicans continue to harp on pointless non-issues such as Obama’s birth certificate and gay marriage, dire threats to our freedom and security go unchecked.   The Patriot Act still exists, US sanctioned torture of “enemy combatants” continues, corporations are being given h...

Local Officials: Thanks for Nothing

To whom it may concern,

Sometime ago, I wrote with a dream and wish to support the returning troops from local 56th National Guard Stryker Brigade with a victory parade. I’ve felt that a parade would express how proud everyone was for the wonderful job our guys did for our country.

I’m proud to be an American and I wouldn’t have the freedom I do if our troops weren’t willing to give of themselves. I’ve made an effort to cont...

A Republic or A Democracy?

On January 21, 1921 Justice George Sutherland of the U.S. Supreme Court in an annual address to the New York State Bar Association made this observation: “It is not the right of property which is protected, but the right to property. Property, per se, has no rights; but the individual –the man- has three great rights, equally sacred from arbitrary interference: the right to his LIFE, the right to his LIBERTY, the right to his PROPERTY…. The three rights are so bound together...

Can History Tell Us about the Future?

Posted at 12:01 AM on September 28, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Sir Winston Churchill believed that history could tell us the future and that all nations rise and fall. The magnificent Egyptian civilization lasted for 3000 years; America (1492-2009) is 517 years old. Do you wonder if we can go that far?

When Winston Churchill was a young officer in India, he asked his mother to send him a complete set of Edward Gibbon (1737-1794). Gibbon was a very thorough historian who was and still is today very much admired by people who delve into ...
