THE HEALTHCARE DEBATE IN PERSPECTIVE

Posted at 05:04 PM on September 19, 2009 Comments comments (1)

Healthcare has, for some reason, been a subject of much debate in political circles these days to the point where it has almost become the social pariah of the Democratic Party. They are using it as a whipping boy to show how evil the Republicans are, just as the Republicans use abortion to show how evil the Democrats are.

The debate should not exist. It persists only because the ruling powers of our country create it and perpetuate it. They are masters of dividing and con...

Fraud?

In the first half of this year (2009) it seemed like every school district in Blair County raised their millage rate. The one that didn’t was Hollidaysburg school district, which was a surprise since they approved a 3.3% salary increase over the “next three years”. Guess we’ll have to wait and see whether this means, that over a three year period their wages will increase by 3.3% or if it means, they will be getting a 3.3% per year increase over the next three years.

A Peculiarity

A recent article titled “1958 Revenues Aren’t Cutting It”, from Poeman of Penn’s Woods, exhibits a peculiarity that has become a trademark, in that; the article reflects its author’s compulsive labors to misrepresent, which suggests a liberal attitude that shuns responsibility.

It has been a while since Poeman has visited us; wonder what rousted her out of Penn’s Woods? Perhaps she has been lost for a while wandering around in circles an...

A Comment on Jobs

Posted at 08:52 PM on July 27, 2009 Comments comments (2)

In the June 2009 issue #17, Crystal wrote a good article concerning former factories and service jobs at the malls.

I believe that the new mall is a perfect example of bad timing. Has anyone else taken a good look at the stores that are already closed? A community needs jobs to keep people shopping.

There are a lot of jobs overseas, where American factories can get better deals on taxes by people who really don’t care about the American economy.

1958 Revenues Aren't Cutting It

What do The Tea Party, the Republican Party,  and Freeman have in common?  They think that you can run government with little or no taxes!  How does Freeman differ from every responsible citizen?  He likes to pay his taxes at 1958 rates and keep our county government bankrupt.  One wonders if he goes into Subway, orders a foot-long, then demands to pay for it at a discount.  Inflation exists.  It is as real as the paper with which our Federal Government creates fiat money to pay its de...

What Did You Do?

The primary election is over and voter turnout in Blair County was 15%, the lowest poll workers have seen in years as reported in a May 20th, 2009 Altoona Mirror article entitled: Voter turnout lower than usual across region. This article also quoted Republican clerk Donna Shultz, who evidently was upset by the dismal turnout and who chastised the voters that did not vote with a warning that, those stay-at-homes will have no justification for complaining if the winners of these school board e...

Kids Deserve Better Education

Posted at 02:00 PM on May 31, 2009 Comments comments (1)

There is usually someone advocating that we expand taxpayer funding “early education” programs, along with some dubious reference to studies that show this will somehow benefit the child.

Can we please keep in mind, this is promoting expansion of the same government-funded programs that have been failing our children miserably for decades?

Does anyone really believe that kids are not graduating high school and a large percentage of graduates a...
