Local coverage of candidates running for offices and school board positions has been eerily non-existent from the Altoona Mirror; looks like they might set this one out. Guess they don’t want to have anything committed to a printed public medium, which could be referenced back to in the future regarding commitments made to voters on issues, especially the issue of reassessment. Your vote is wanted but you are not to know what you’re voting for nor do they want a paper trail, trick...

Dear Neighbor,

Hello! I'm Jason Ibrahim, and as a Republican candidate for Altoona City Council, I have a passion to serve our city. With your help, I hope to make our hometown more of what it already is - a place where parents want to raise their children, entrepreneurs want to grow their businesses, and everyone has the opportunity to prosper and flourish.

As the son of a teacher and printing pressman, I witnessed the value of an h...

Since starting the Campaign season in July I've knocked on over 1000 doors and have had the opportunity to discuss the issues with many concerned Altoona citizens. I have attended many events including the Tea Party Day at Legion Park, Juniata Community Day, The Labor Day Parade, The Downtown Cruise In and The Altoona First Festival along with other happenings. I have also attended the City Council meetings and have taken the opportunity to speak with Mayor Hippo and all the serving members o...

RE: Lesson Learned

Dear Mr. Preusser

Apparently you should educate yourself more in the ways of becoming a politician since this is the route you so desire. As a politician, you are subjecting yourself to scrutiny and investigation by your potential voters. I do believe that it the right and obligation of a citizen to make other voters aware of the candidate if they have prior knowledge of a potential candidate's past. Because as we know their pasts often speak of their future decisions, and ...

Lesson Learned

I BELIEVE, this is the problem with this area exactly, the people that try to run for office with dignity and respect towards our local people get bashed from the citzens; but the people that run for office and seem to do whatever they want when elected, not to mention (KEEP GETTING RE-ELECTED) people never say a word about it or say something but take no action.

I will say it again, the thing I will do in office is; STAND UP FOR THE PEOPLE....I never claimed to be perfect,...

What Did You Do?

The primary election is over and voter turnout in Blair County was 15%, the lowest poll workers have seen in years as reported in a May 20th, 2009 Altoona Mirror article entitled: Voter turnout lower than usual across region. This article also quoted Republican clerk Donna Shultz, who evidently was upset by the dismal turnout and who chastised the voters that did not vote with a warning that, those stay-at-homes will have no justification for complaining if the winners of these school board e...
